About Photography in the Raw

Photography in the Raw is a professional photography academy based at Salt Media Studios in Frederick, Colorado. Founded and led by Robert Morrissey — a working commercial photographer with decades of experience shooting for national brands, editorial publications, and private clients — the academy was built on a single conviction: that great photography is not about expensive gear or automated presets, but about mastering the fundamental craft of light, exposure, and composition.

The academy offers a structured curriculum organized into progressive modules, live workshops, and an active monthly club known as the Photography in the RAW Club. Every lesson is grounded in Robert's proprietary EXP=SDQC method — a systematic approach to exposure, staging, direction, and critique that strips away the automated frame and teaches photographers to see and control light with intention.
